The GLP-1 dosing schedule for weight loss is typically designed as a gradual escalation to help minimize potential gastrointestinal side effects. Below is a general progression:
Time PeriodDosage
Month 1 (Weeks 1-4)The starting dose is 0.25 mg per week.
Month 2 (Weeks 5–8)The dose is increased to 0.5 mg per week.
Month 3 (Weeks 9–12)The dosage is increased to 1.0 mg per week.
Month 4 (Weeks 13–16)The dose is increased to 1.7 mg per week.
Month 5 and beyond (Week 17+)The dosage reaches 2.4 mg per week, which is the maintenance dosage.

Please Note:

  • Take your injection on the same day each week. You can take it with or without food.
  • Missed a dose? If it’s been less than 4 days, take it as soon as you remember.
  • If it’s been more than 4 days, skip the missed dose and wait until your next scheduled day.
  • This is not medical advice.
  • Every patient is different. This is just an example of a common treatment plan your provider might follow.
  • If you’re unsure about your dose, or if your provider hasn’t given specific instructions, please send a message through the patient portal.
  • At our pharmacy, Semaglutide strength increases over time, but the injection amount usually stays the same: Inject 0.25 mL (or 25 units) once per week, even as the strength of the medication increases.
