How to Apply Finasteride + Minoxidil

A Guide to applying Finasteride + Minoxidil

This quick guide walks you through how to properly apply topical Finasteride + Minoxidil to ensure maximum effectiveness and safety. You’ll learn when and how to use your treatment, what to avoid before and after, and how to build a consistent routine. Each step is designed to make the process simple, reliable, and effective—supporting your long-term hair health with confidence.

When to Use It

  • Timing: Most patients apply once daily, ideally in the evening to allow time for absorption before sleep.
  • Consistency: Apply at the same time each day to support optimal results and routine adherence.

How to Use It

  • Apply to Dry Scalp: Make sure your scalp is clean and completely dry before application.
  • Use as Directed: Apply the prescribed amount (typically 1 mL) directly to the thinning areas.
  • Spread Evenly: Use your fingertips to gently spread the solution across the targeted area.
  • Do Not Rinse: Allow the solution to fully absorb and dry before using other hair products, lying down, or wearing hats (typically takes 2–4 hours).
  • Wash Hands: Thoroughly wash hands after application.

What to Avoid

  • Water or Hair Products: Avoid wetting your hair or applying other products for at least 4 hours after use.
  • Overuse: Do not apply more than prescribed. Using more will not improve results and may increase the risk of side effects.
  • Missed Doses: If you miss a dose, apply your next scheduled dose. Do not double up.

Storage Instructions

  • Temperature: Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
  • Keep Secure: Keep the bottle tightly sealed and out of reach of children.
  • Avoid Contamination: Do not touch the dropper or applicator tip to your scalp or fingers to prevent contamination.

Additional Tips

  • Track Your Progress: Take progress photos monthly to monitor changes in hair density and regrowth.
  • Be Patient: Results typically take 3–6 months to appear. Continued use is necessary to maintain benefits.
  • Mild Side Effects: Scalp dryness or irritation may occur. Contact your provider if symptoms persist or worsen.
